2024 Week 9 Predictions - NC State vs Stanford

It's the battle of the Block S's! Winner gets to keep the logo, actually Stanford can keep it, we're good. Let's go with the trees vs the wolves. Much better. You gotta love college sports, bruh. Their mascot is literally a Christmas tree. The fact they had to make a tree costume so someone could walk up and down the sidelines doing whatever moves a tree does is up there with having someone wear a giant orange, which funnily enough is the other block S that NC State gets confused with all the time. Buuut anyway, I digress...

We didn't think we'd be looking at the last four games of the season wondering about whether the Wolfpack would make to bowl eligibility, but here we are. NC State stands at 4-4 (1-3) and is in no mans land with their season. It can go either way, honestly, but luckily Stanford provides a ripe opportunity for a confidence boosting win. Stanford is 2-6 (1-4), however their lone conference win is against a team NC State lost to, so I don't even know what to expect, if we're being honest. All we do know is it makes zero sense for NC State to play at home against Stanford in a durn conference game.

As we do (mostly) every week, our crew put their best guesses to paper to say how they think the game will turn out:

ESPN Predicto-Bot

76.1% - 23.9% (W)

Down just slightly from 79.1%-20.9% in preseason. NC State actually has a 10 point spread iin their favor this week, which means they will NOT be covering that, naturally.

Alec Lower

24-17 (W)

Defense will continue its upward climb. Offense will find explosive plays while remaining erratic. State holds on at the end.

Essad Malik

31-27 (W)

NC State will keep it annoyingly close for way too long against an obviously inferior opponent, but this is the way, isn't it? Expecting another step for Bailey, and more frustrating tackle attempts by the defense.

Trey Lower

34-20 (W)

I can't predict a blowout until it happens. But I think being back at home, refreshed with a bye week, and a new goal of winning out brings a determined Fighting Doeren's

Joel Seagle

35-27 (W)

Playing at home against Stanford should garner us a win. CJ continues to improve. This game won't be as close as the final score.

Jackson Williford

31-20 (W)

Feels risky picking State to cover again. I think the bye week makes a big difference. Stanford playing at 9 AM local time helps, too.

So, what do you think will happen this week? Let us know in the comments below, and respond in the poll with your pick!

  • NC State Wolfpack

  • A literal tree

AI image of the week:

Tried to get an evil tree fighting a wolf and this was the best I could do. For some reason the wolf is stuck in the tree. Hopefully that's not an omen. Honestly I think the AI got confused thinking the roots were the wolf's legs. Once you see it that way you can't unsee it. You're welcome.
